Europe Class World Championship 2012 will be held from July 12 to 24th in L’Escala, Girona – Costa Brava (Spain), receiving participants in both male and female categories. Thus, the Nautic Club of Escala will become one of the major sailing centers in the world during these days.
There are about 130 participants of different European nationalities registered for the competition, and even 2 sailors from Argentina. The following European countries will be represented in the Championship: Sweden – 28 participants, Denmark – 23, Spain – 17, Norway – 11, France and Germany – 10 , Finland and Italy – 6, Belgium – 4, Poland – 3, Czech Republic – 2, Portugal – 1.
The inauguration of the event, that will start with the Open Week, held between July 13 and 16th, consists of a total of 8 official training races and open qualifying regattas for those sailors who have not qualified for the World Cup yet. The following day, July 17th, competitors will start the race for the World Cup as a prelude to the World Championship that will be held between 19 and 24, where 12 legs have already been prepared for its participants.
It is expected that in case more than 40 athletes qualify for the world championship, it will have a participation of over 150 sailors.
There has been created a meeting point in the Headquarters of the Sailing Club of Escala, equipped with a giant screen for sailors, their companions and the organizational team in order to follow all the details of the race. Also, this meeting point will be the main location for the social agenda, hosting events like trophy awarding for the Open Week as well as the Championships opening and awards ceremonies.
