The Olympic Nothe Race Course Area was a place where the 35 year old British sailor added another gold to his previous Olympic medals which include gold in the Laser class in Atlanta 96, another Laser class gold in Sydney 2000, and 2 golds in the Finn class – in Athens 2004 as well as in Beijing 2008. Thus Ainslie has won 5 Olympic champion titles beating the Danish sailor Elvstorm who holds 4 champion titles and becoming the best Olympic yacht racer of all time.

In the history of the Olympic Games there are two more sailors who have gained 5 Olympic medals – Brazilians Torben Grael and Robert Scheidt – who are owners of two gold, one silver and two bronze medals each.
